Coolhurst Gardens Tennis and Squash Club, London
Additional play facilities were built for the existing tennis and squash club cut into a steep sided embankment. A portal frame structure was supported on piles foundations that also acted to form a retaining wall to the embankment. A two storey oak frames portico structure was built immediately adjacent to the new extension. This was formed using traditional mortise and tenon connections.
Access to the site was extremely limited. The sequencing of construction and suitability of chosen forms of construction for the site was key. Initially it was necessary to form a cutting through the embankment in order to gain access for the piling rig.
