System No 25
The 5m high stainless steel sculpture was required to spring out of the ground without any interference from base details.
To this effect the sculpture is sat on a steel baseplate buried in the ground. Although the sculpture itself tapers inwards at the base, outrigger corners have been used to give stability to the baseplate to prevent overturning. The weight of earth placed over the plate is designed to create the required kentledge.
